This is where it all begins. A very enjoyable combination of knowledge and skills, this class introduces you to the mystery of the underwater world. Taught in a safe and supportive environment, we allow you to learn and develop your skills in two nights of classroom and two nights of pool sessions in an indoor heated pool. The check-out dives are held at Balmorhea State Park in the clear, balmy 76º waters of San Solomon Sprints.
As long as you are at least 10 years of age, in good health, reasonably fit, and comfortable in the water you can earn this certification. For equipment, you will need a mask, snorkel, fins, scuba boots, mesh bag, binder, safety tube and clip. Please fell free to make an appointment to come in to the store and be custom fitted for those items. Once you choose a suitable set of personal gear, we will give you a package discount on your purchase. We provide all other gear at no additional cost! When you earn this certification, you will have the freedom to rent or purchase gear at our shop and worldwide, and to dive to a maximum depth of sixty feet without the aid and direction of an instructor.
Current pricing is $400 for the class, which includes all study materials and equipment with the exception of mask, snorkel, fins, scuba boots, mesh bag, binder, safety tube and clip. We provide all other equipment at no additional cost! It is a weekend chock full of diving adventure.
Upon completion of this certification, you will find yourself much more comfortable and secure while diving. You will be able to reach the recreational diving limit of 130 feet and visit some dive sites that require this additional level of training.

Traditional Enriched Air Diver (Nitrox)
The Enriched Air Diver course (Nitrox) will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to safely enjoy every dive. The two main benefits of diving on Nitrox include feeling more relaxed at the end of a long day of diving or a multi-day trip, and absorbing less nitrogen during each dive. By absorbing less nitrogen you can increase your bottom times, increase the number of dives you can do in a day and, most important, you will reduce you risk of decompression sickness.
Upon completion of this certification, you will know how to properly track the amount of oxygen building up in your system and how to verify the percentage of oxygen in your tank.
You must be at least 12 years of age and hold an Open Water or Jr. Open Water certification. Since no dives are required, we can do one classroom at the store to receive this certification. The cost of this class is $250 and includes all study materials.
You also have the option to take the Nitrox class in conjunction with the Advanced class at Blue Hole in Santa Rosa, New Mexico. You will do some of your Advanced dives using Nitrox on the weekend. Also, by taking the two certification classes at the same time you receive a discounted class price of $225 for the Nitrox class and all the study materials are included.
The two courses, Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) and Emergency First Response Secondary Care (First Aid), make up a foundational offering in emergency care for the lay-provider. Within the two one-night courses, CPR and first aid skills are integrated into an easy-to-remember emergency care sequence. This sequence allows participants to provide effective emergency care to injured or ill persons. There is no minimum age requirement, and all materials are included in the $150.00 class price.
